Products and Solutions

Steel

We are graphite specialists and we distribute graphite electrodes for the arc furnaces both EAF and LF. We also supply laser cut metal parts, 2D and 3D.

Primary Aluminium

The application of Graphite Cathode blocks in the Primary Aluminium Industry has induced us to develop in partnership with KANNAK SA, a recognized world leader in the Aluminium electrolysis process modeling, a new concept of collector bar made of copper to extract current from the cell. The new technology has been covered by international patent. The installations of the new collector bar in some cell units has confirmed the potential of electrical energy reduction, the increase of the magneto-hydro-dinamic stability of the cell and the potential to increase current and current efficiency. The development, the industrialization and the sale of the new cathode collector bar was assigned to NOVALUM SA www.novalum.ch

Indirect and Direct Extrusion

The knowledge of indirect and direct extrusion process enables us to propose complete production lines, including the fabrication of the extrusion dies. For the indirect extrusion of hard aluminium alloys, we have developed advanced thermomechanical processing steps to reduce the work in progress times, the direct production costs and increase the finished product yeld.

Melt Shop

Aluminium is molten with double chamber furnaces equipped with low frequency induction stirrers. The double chamber furnaces that we provide comply with the highest standards of the Industry as far as efficiency and metal yields are concerned. The elimination of impurities such as oxides and hydrogen is achieved by a special positioning of the degassing units along the transfer launder and by the transfer method. Alloyed billets are usually produced with Hot Top DC casters with a specific technology depending on diameter and alloy.

Hydroforming - Heatforming

The hard alloy tubes are hydroformed by the injection of a high pressure fluid. The hydroforming at room temperature limits the deformations achievable. To increase the deformation rate without going beyond the elongation limits a hot hydroforming process was developed: the tube is preheated at 300-400°C and hot formed by injecting a gas at the pressure of about 300 bar. The hot deformed tube is not work hardened and can be quenched in air or water to achieve the final mechanical properties. The hot hydroforming process is successfully used in the automotive, the furniture and the defense industry. The patented process is named HEAT FORMING .

Thermal Treatments

We sell gas fired and induction heaters, inline or stand alone, for the Aluminium and Copper billets heating. We also supply solution quench ovens for the hard Aluminium alloys solution treatment capable to operate in continuous mode or as a batch chamber.

Seamless Tubes And Hollow Bars In Hard Aluminium Alloy

Seamless tubes and hollow bars in hard Aluminium alloys can be produced with low conversion costs to compete in price with the hard Aluminium alloy solid bars. Solid bars may need to be drilled to fabricate mechanical components: the drilling operation involves an additional fabrication cost and a higher scrap rate as compared to the use of seamless tubes and hollows. The Industry, in particular the automotive and defence, can benefit a lot from using low cost seamless tubes and hollows: 1> Reduced weight of the structural components. 2> Reduced fabrication costs and scrap rate. 3> Higher consistency and reliability of the seamless hollows as compared to the chamber welded hollows. The new low cost production process of hard Aluminium alloy seamless tubes and hollow bars can open new horizons for the entire range of hard Aluminium alloys in new fields of applications where until now the high cost has been the limiting factor to the obvious technical advantages. Some of the Aluminium hard alloys: AA 2011, AA 2007, AA 2014, AA 2024, AA 7010, AA 7075.
